Climate Change and Health (CCH)

Climate change is said to be the most significant threat on the global stage in the 21st century. It is not only affecting the atmosphere, ecosystems and biodiversity, but also creating a massive impact on the health system and population. Many of these climate change effects are already visible and immediately need public health experts, decision-makers, academics, researchers, and general people to receive baseline knowledge and explanations on the science of climate change and its effects on health.

Monitoring the growing impacts of climate change on health in Bangladesh requires a variety of scattered and sometimes obscure data sources on climate change,  health, and population outcomes. With all the scattered information on this topic, there is a need to put together all the components in a single webbased platform which should provide sources of relevant data, scientific publications, and brief explanations of the science of climate change and its impact on health. This resource website is developed to combine relevant data sources and essential links to provide a more up-to-date climate change and health scenario in the global and Bangladesh context in a single web-based platform.

This website will present meaningful climate change-related information such as types of threats due to climate change, vector-borne diseases, heat waves and heat stress, air pollution and conditions like hypertension; cardio-vascular diseases; respiratory infections; water pollution and waterborne diseases, climate change related food security issues and associated malnutrition threats. Information on climatic disasters, i.e. cyclones, floods, and droughts, as well as local and global climate change related factors such as sea level rise, salinity intrusion, sea surface temperature, atmospheric CO2 and global warming, greenhouse gas emission, El-Nino/La-Nina, Indian Ocean Dipole, etc.

This website will also offer up-to-date meteorological data, health information, links to significant climate databases, and internal scientific publications. Real-time temperature, humidity, and air quality data will be accessible on this website. The result should provide crucial information and discussion for academics, program managers, and policymakers to evaluate and monitor the impact of climate change on health, make strategic decisions, allocate resources, and devise interventions to protect health and avoid adverse effects.
